A prized diamond is esteemed such because of its carat, clarity, color, and cut. When the stone sparkles, it reveals light that has entered through one facet (face) and is reflected off internal facets to then leave with colors and flashes. It’s beautiful and enticing because the emitted light seems unpredictable, fleeting, and dances in different ways depending on how the gem is rotated and perceived.
How the packed carbon, formed under intense heat and pressure over a long period of time, becomes an item of worth is the consequence of crafted workmanship that explores innate properties of the material and draws out patterns and forms that would never have been exposed if left alone.
Although we would not sign-up for them, the pressures and cuts and polishing that accompany the “grinds of life” are, in truth, the very experiences which draw out our hidden beauty – character traits which shine, and can be counted on in times of need.
Be encouraged that past challenges prepared us for the present. Current and future challenges will continue that process. Leave behind what has been chipped off, and celebrate (maybe even brag about) the amazing, solid you that is engaged in the practice of life.
